The Legal Aid Society of Cleveland (Legal Aid) seeks an intern for its Development &
Communications Department to work up to 40 hours per week in its downtown Cleveland office
this summer. The internship will begin in early June 2012 and last for approximately 12 (or more)
weeks.
The Development & Communications Department focuses on fundraising from individuals, law
firms, corporations and foundations; handles public relations; and conducts media outreach. The
development intern will primarily support the Director of Development & Communications.
Primary Responsibilities
• maintain Raiser’s Edge (Legal Aid’s donor database) and perform data entry, including:
biographical information, Volunteer Lawyers Program hours, phone numbers, e-mail,
additional addresses, donation data, pledge info, relationships and other notations
• create systems and procedures to check accuracy of Raiser’s Edge data
• develop standards of practice for Raiser’s Edge database
• research potential funding sources

The City of Upper Arlington City Manager’s Office is looking to secure a part-time Community Affairs Assistant, not to exceed 35 hours per week. Alternately, The City is considering securing a Community Affairs Intern if a strong student candidate emerges, with the option of transitioning to the part-time Community Affairs Assistant position upon graduation and subject to a successful internship period. The selected candidate will provide public relations administrative assistance and support under the supervision of the Community Affairs Director.

The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing, fact checking, writing, updating and disseminating media releases, articles, service brochures and other City publications and communications activities; updating and implementing annual marketing and logistics action plans for various special events including many Parks & Recreation Department programs; maintaining and updating media contacts; monitoring and maintaining timely/accurate reports of media coverage of City programs and activities; copying and filing materials and information; researching, writing, editing and undertaking the production and layout of the monthly employee newsletter and other internal communications; taking and selecting photos for publications; monitoring and updating the City’s website; implementing and monitoring various social media tools and online survey tools; assisting with public meetings and special events; providing a support role for emergency public information activities; and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Part-time position – necessary qualifications include: one year certificate from an accredited college or technical school, Associate’s degree in public relations, communications, journalism or other related field, or the equivalent from an accredited two-year college or technical school (preferred); four-five years experience; or, any combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job. (Hourly rate: $19.09-$22.25 depending on level of expertise & experience.)
Internship – candidates should be majoring in public relations, communications, journalism or other related field, and previous internship experience is preferred. (Hourly rate: $12.50-$13.00 for undergraduate student or $13.75-$14.25 for graduate student based on skills/experience.)
Additional Qualifications – in both instances, candidates must demonstrate experience using Macintosh desktop publishing (QuarkXPress, InDesign, Freehand, Photoshop preferred), and Microsoft Office; ability to communicate effectively (orally and in writing) and a valid driver’s license. The preferred candidate must possess excellent writing, organizational and time management skills.

Universal Design Living Laboratory: National Demonstration Home and Garden in Columbus

Rosemarie Rossetti, Ph.D. of Rossetti Enterprises Inc. is looking for interns to start immediately at her firm. Although this is an unpaid position, it's a great internship and as a student you would have an advantage to gain real world experience on a national demonstration home and garden currently under construction in Columbus.

Here is a little more information about Rosemarie and her project.

Rosemarie was an Ohio State University faculty member for 11 years in the Department of Agricultural Education. When she left OSU in January 1997, she started her speaking, training and consulting firm, Rossetti Enterprises Inc. www.RosemarieSpeaks.com

On June 13, 1998 while riding her bicycle on a bike trail in Granville, she was crushed by a 7,000 pound tree and instantly paralyzed from the waist down. She spent the summer of 1998 at OSU in the Dodd Hall rehabilitation center after sustaining a spinal cord injury. When she returned home, she found her two story home inaccessible. Fast forward to today...

Now, she and her husband are building a new home and garden in Columbus to serve as a national demonstration home to showcase universal design and green building construction practices. The Universal Design Living Laboratory is currently under construction on Clark State Rd. in Jefferson Township, just east of Gahanna. This house will be open for tours for a month In the late spring/early summer of 2012 to the national media and public when it is complete. Net proceeds from the tours go to OSU for spinal cord injury research.
