Position Description
Job Title:  College Intern

Purpose of the internship is to provide a student practical experience in a work environment outside of the college campus setting and to give students confidence in his/her abilities to be a responsible and productive individual.  Experience is hoped to increase decision making and analytical skills through observations of actual work experiences. Designed to provide professional experience to include on student’s resume.

Eligibility: A Junior or Senior in college with a minimum grade point average of 2.7.  The internship can range from 15 hours to 28 hours per week.

Requirements:
-        Student must develop a work agreement that defines the nature of their desired work experiences, learning objectives and academic expectations.  A faculty member of the college should coordinate the agreement between the student and the Chamber President/CEO.

-        The student is required to complete an interview process with the Chamber President/CEO.

-        A legitimate “learning experience” must be provided to be beneficial to both parties.  Typically, the intern would be studying Public Relations, Marketing, Graphic Design, Communications or Business to find a valuable work experience at the Chamber of Commerce.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Complete a Chamber Office Orientation designed by the President/CEO.  Up to a four hour session which will include computer overview, purpose of a Chamber of Commerce, office equipment use and an understanding of Chamber staff responsibilities.

Prepare news releases for current events and programs sponsored by the Chamber.  Reviewed by Chamber President/CEO or his or her designee before distribution.

Accompany the President/CEO at meetings for information gathering and experience.

Assist in compiling media kits for the Music & Arts Festival. (Applies Spring/Summer quarter.)

Assist in preparing plans for membership meetings, Taste of Westerville, golf outing, and/or Evening of Elegance Auction. (Depending on the time of year.)

Gather data to design or revise flyers, computerized reports or letters to enhance the image of the Chamber.

Take initiative to accomplish goals/expectations through assigned projects, observations, reading, on-site activities, interviews or discussions, training, and attendance related at meetings.

Provide administrative and staff support in the delivery of Red Cross Health and Safety Programs

§  Assist in the management of on-boarding new volunteers for PHSS
§  Assist with outreach efforts in volunteer instructor recruitment efforts (i.e. Authorized Provider Instructors)

Purpose

Help reconnect families who have been separated from one another as a result of a war or certain civil conflicts within their home countries.  Assist the chapter in searching for affected individuals within our region as well as promote the International Service program within our general community.

§  Review incoming international tracing requests
§  Assist with the search of family members located within the local international community

Position Title:             Photographer/Videographer/Editing (Intern), Communications

Purpose

Use professional photography skills to communicate the Red Cross story visually. Capture video and/or still images of Red Cross services in action, including Red Cross volunteers and individuals receiving services, allowing us to use local photos for a variety of purposes.
Key Responsibilities
§ Record still photos and/or video that represent our services including, disaster, health and safety, first aid services and transportation and that spotlight Red Cross volunteers.
§ Edit images for a variety of uses, audiences, delivery mechanisms
§ Work collaboratively with other departments
§ Accompany volunteers on their assignments to capture images and be part of the DAT Public Affairs rotation
§ Obtain proper permissions and information at assignments
