COMMUNICATION/ MARKETING / SOCIAL MEDIA INTERN for local Business Association and Township

Description:

Forward-thinking, small local Business Association in conjunction with their Township Administration is looking to hire an intern interested in learning all aspects of the hands-on public relations including print and online marketing campaign. Intern will updates and maintain the Association website, launch a social media campaign, takes photos, preps and disseminate news article while they will also work on items for the Township. The intern hired for this position will need strong critical thinking skills, an outgoing personality and self confidence in order to integrate and assist the volunteer Board to continue to grow the Association membership. It's essential that the applicant for this position be innovative, have excellent communication skills, demonstrate creativity, be self motivated and organized.

Responsibilities:
§ Create print media and maintain tracking report of public relations activity
§ Create written communication to members and prospects
§ Post and maintain all correspondence from GTBA (password protected area on web)
§ Create and maintain a listing of newspaper and media contacts in our area.
§ Update website with fresh content bi-monthly: new members, upcoming events
§ Obtain and post biography’s for all speakers on GTBA website
§ Take, edit and post video and photographs from general meetings and events on website
§ Contribute to website redesign project in various ways
§ Monitor and post on blogs, forums, and social networks
§ Create online outreach and promotion using Facebook, MySpace, LinkedIn, Twitter, etc
§ Maintain list of advertising banner availability, pricing and renewal dates
§ Assist in creation of policy regarding web updates/changes (Supervisor approval)
§ When requested, assist with scheduling and coordinating speaking engagements, appearances, photo shoots, and other special events
§ Compile and maintain database for members and prospects
§ Attends meeting to assimilate date for distribution
§ Maintain quest list and create follow-up system for guests
§ Assist in the creation of signage, circulars, e-mail campaigns, on line promotion, etc.
§ When requested, assist with execution of meetings, social events or trade show
§ Assist in creation of Policy and Procedure Manual for position
§ Project management maintenance with monthly status reports on projects
§ Maintain journal and time of projects

Requirements:

Undergraduate students applying for this internship must be outgoing, have strong written and verbal communication skills, posses extensive knowledge of social media and Web understanding. Students applying should be majoring in Communications, Public Relations or Journalism and have a flexible schedule to attend early morning meetings with a few weekend events. Only students’ proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint should apply. Web site design/maintenance experience is a bonus.

Workload / Compensation:

Intern should expect approximately 10 hours of work per week. $8.00 per hour. The Internship will begin April 1st, if not sooner, and will continue until May 31, 2012, with the possibility of continuation through the summer months. Office space and computer will be provided.
