*Job Description: Departmental overview: The Community Relations department is committed to a variety of grassroots outreach programs designed to have a positive impact in central Ohio and beyond. The team’s players, coaches, broadcasters and mascot Stinger support this community engagement with appearances and participation at various events throughout the year.

The Foundation, the charitable arm of the hockey club, is a vehicle through which the franchise’s athletes, coaches and staff contribute time and financial resources to organizations supporting the Foundation’s four pillars of giving: the fight against pediatric cancer; education; children’s health & safety and the development of youth & amateur hockey.
Job Description: The intern will be expected to assist on key projects and take responsibility of daily activities as outlined by members of the community relations department and executive director of the Blue Jackets Foundation. This internship will give the student first-hand experience in event planning and execution as well as involvement in departmental planning and programming for the upcoming season. In addition, the intern will be expected to attend after-hours programs and weekend special events as needed.
Key Projects and Responsibilities:
• Donations - Assist with tracking and fulfillment of monthly donation requests; and ongoing management and organization of donation inventory. Also, research donation policies and guidelines of other teams.
• Foundation, Community and Team Events – Assist staff with planning and execution of all major events including, but not limited to, the Golf Classic; Red White & Boom and all Fourth of July community parades; blood drive; bike safety celebration; and FanFest.
• Educational programs – Assist with research, planning, marketing and implementation of school programs.
• Foundation research – Conduct research on foundations of other major-league teams and leagues to compare programs, best practices, structure relative to team.
Signature Projects: In addition to daily projects, the summer intern will be prepared to serve as primary point of contact for annual Red Cross blood drive (under direction of CD Manager) and annual Nationwide Children’s Hospital Bike Safety Celebration (under director of Manager of Mascot Services). This will provide hands-on event planning experience and coordination with key community partners.

This position is for college credit and is a non-paid internship.
*Qualifications: Required Hours: Equivalent of 35-40 hours (either one full-time intern or two that can split the schedule) in the office, plus community events/appearances as needed.
Requirements:
• Ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously with attention to detail in a fast-paced environment
• Ability to work independently to perform assigned tasks
• Effective written and verbal communication skills
• Comfortable conversing with fans, donors, partners in person and on the phone
• Proficient in Microsoft Office, Outlook, and PowerPoint. Knowledge of Photoshop is a plus.
