The Maryland' Delaware' District of Columbia (MDDC) Press Foundation, supported by all ofthe dailies and

virtually all of the weeklies in the three regions, is offering paid summer internships at member newspapers

through the Reese Cleghorn MDDC Internship Program.



Internships for the summer of 2014,

named for the former University of

Maryland journalism dean, will be offered

to student journalists attending

any four-year college in Maryland,

Delaware or the District of Columbia

or who reside in the MDDC region

and attend four-year colleges elsewhere

Internships are available for news

reporting, copy editing or photojournalism

Interns will be paid $300 a week after

taxes for eight weeks

Applicants must have the use of an

automobile during the internship and

be living within reasonable driving

distance of their assigned newspaper

Students who have demonstrated a

strong career interest in newspaper

writing, copy editing or photojournalism

are eligible to apply They should

have either completed a collegelevel

course in one of these subjects

or have the equivalent experience

on a college or community newspaper.

Internships are intended for

undergraduates (rather than graduate

students), with preference given






to those with minimal or no previous

internship experience Those selected

should be returning to classes for

at least one semester following the

internship

Samples of newspaper writing, copy

editing or photojournalism, either

published or submitted for a collegelevel

course, will be required.

Assignments will be made to participating

newspapers as near as

possible to the residences of the

selected applicants Some of these

newspapers will be dailies and others

will be weeklies Assignment to a

particular newspaper will be subject

to the approval of the editor

Finalists for 2014 internships will be

notified by mid-December and must

come to the MDDC office in Annapolis,

Md. in early January to be interviewed

by the Press Association's

Intern Selection Committee
