*Job Description:A Communication Internship with the American Heart Association will consist of assisting the Communications Director in the following areas: writing press releases; copy writing for television, radio and print PSAs, event scripts and collateral materials; designing collateral materials; coordinating printing of collateral; coordinating media sponsorships, work with social media and any miscellaneous office projects. Any materials created during the internship are available for the intern to keep and use in his/her portfolio. Provided the internship is completed in a satisfactory manner, a letter of recommendation and a reference can be provided. The internship is unpaid. Please see below for additional details pertaining to each aspect of the internship.

Press Releases: Press releases are written for events, pertinent health information, new guideline releases, new staff announcements, and more. Some press releases require research and complete writing and others require minimal information plugged into a Swiss cheese release. Media advisories and calendar entries are also written for each event. Research for specific media outlets may be required for special interest stories and pitches.

Copy Writing: Scripts are written for each event. Also, PSA copy is written from time to time for television, radio and print. Copy is also written for each collateral piece used at all events.

Coordinating Collateral Design and Printing: Collateral materials include, but are not limited to: invitations, save the date cards, programs, signage, newsletters and more. Logos and ads are collected from all sponsors and copy is written for each piece. All copy and graphics are either outsourced to a designer or used for in-house design. After the proofing process is completed, pieces are sent out to the printer, proofed and delivered. Quotes from 2-3 printers are needed before printing each piece.

Media Sponsorships: Media sponsorships are secured for each event. Sponsorship benefits are negotiated and then fulfilled. Tracking of all sponsor logo placement and additional sponsor benefits is required. At the completion of the partnership a thank you/recap packet is made and delivered to the sponsor.

Social Media: Social Media such as; Facebook, Twitter and YouTube must be maintained and updated on a regular basis.
