Position Title:    Major Gifts Development Intern

 

Purpose

The Major Gift Development Intern will provide assistance to the Major Gifts Officer who is responsible for making and cultivating relationships for individual donors, and private foundation donors. The intern will gain valuable experience in nonprofit fundraising with a special emphasis on major donor relationships. The intern will grow and refine their writing, research, communication, and organization skills in the scope of major fundraising nonprofit work.
Key Responsibilities
§  Conduct individual and private foundation research including potential and current donors
§   Write email correspondences for relationship cultivation with staff, donors, and prospects
§  Organize development meeting notes
§  Write/ edit research reports
§  Write tailored thank you letters to various clients and donors
§  Help proof, edit, and write major donor, individual donor, and private foundation mailings, letters, and response cards; organize and mail letters
§  Help set-up and facilitate the assembly of major gift mailings with staff.
§  Assist with the Major Gifts program
§  Track and organize incoming donations
§  Help organize gift/ donor data on excel spreadsheets
§  Modify, edit, and possibly create spreadsheets on donation amount and other data
§  Other duties as assigned.
 
Reports To
Major Gifts Officer
Time Commitment
15 to 20 hours/week minimum. Flexible, must have time during business week (M-F 9am-5pm)
Length of Appointment
Fall Semester
Qualifications
§  Must be a current college student
§  Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software
§  Intermediate or advanced knowledge of Mail Merge functions (MS Word and Excel)
§  Extremely detailed-oriented
§  Ability to organize efficiently
§  Advanced written and oral communication skills
§  Customer-service and relationship-building focus
§  Self-motivated, creative, willing to learn by “hands-on” experiences
 
Training
§  On-the-job training will be provided as necessary
§  Disaster Services: An Overview
§  CPR/FA
Budget Support
§  Will be provided with free training and access to adequate work supplies including desk, chair, computer, printer, telephone and office supplies as needed.
