Communications Intern



The Broad Street Food Pantry, an outreach ministry of the Broad Street Presbyterian Church, has been serving our neighbors in need since 1971. In 1971, we operated out of a closet, providing people with bread, peanut butter, canned goods or other items that had been donated. Today, we have a 700 square foot facility (additional storage space located throughout the church) where we serve a 5 day supply of food to over 1700 individuals each month. 90% of the food we serve comes from Mid-Ohio FoodBank; 78% of the food served is purchased. More than 90% of our budget comes from fundraising, grants, and donations.

As demand continues to increase and prices continue to increase, the Broad Street Food Pantry seeks talented individuals to help us with capacity building. Internships will be based on student availability and may include independent work. Hours can be tailored to individual student and will vary from 10-20 hours per week based on project(s). Interns will be expected to spend 10-20 hours working with clients in the Pantry to build understanding of the need prior to project development. Balance of the internship will be spent on project(s) chosen based on intern’s area of interest.

Intern will work closely with Pantry Manager for information gathering, project development. Intern will present detailed proposal (scope of project, supplies needed, budget, expected benefit) to Food Pantry Board for approval before implementation. Intern will implement and evaluate project (if time allows), suggest improvements/changes needed.

This position requires strong written and oral communication skills, and an ability to work well with all types of people. Organizational skills and an attention to detail are a must, as well as the ability to work independently within the framework of a given project. Flexibility, optimism, sense of humor, and a cooperative spirit in a sometimes hectic working environment are all very helpful characteristics.

 Develop marketing materials

 Develop multi-use press kit

 Development projects

 Develop photo file for use in marketing, development, grant writing

 Use of social media

 Projects suggested by student and approved by Pantry Manager
