Internship Position Description


American Red Cross of Greater Columbus


 

Position Title:             Photographer/Videographer/Editing (Intern), Communications

 

Purpose

Use professional photography skills to communicate the Red Cross story visually. Capture video and/or still images of Red Cross services in action, including Red Cross volunteers and individuals receiving services, allowing us to use local photos for a variety of purposes.
Key Responsibilities
§ Record still photos and/or video that represent our services including, disaster, health and safety, first aid services and transportation and that spotlight Red Cross volunteers.
§ Edit images for a variety of uses, audiences, delivery mechanisms
§ Work collaboratively with other departments
§ Accompany volunteers on their assignments to capture images and be part of the DAT Public Affairs rotation
§ Obtain proper permissions and information at assignments
Reports To
Chief  Communication Officer
Time Commitment
15-20 hours per week during business hours (Monday-Friday 8:30am-5pm)
Length of Appointment
One Semester
Qualifications
§  Must have videography, still photography and/or video editing skills
§  Must have access to usable equipment (not provided by ARCGC).
Training
§  Intern Orientation
§  On-the-Job training
§  CPR/First Aid/AED training (2 year certification)
§  Disaster Services: An Overview (Online)
§  Community Transportation Program shadowing experience (schedule permitting)
§  Disaster Response Team shadowing experience (schedule permitting, if disaster occurs)
§  Opportunity to become trained for other volunteer roles, if desired
Relationships
Receives primary work direction and oversight from Chief Communication Officer; will collaborate to support ES employees, members of the media, volunteers, members of the community, and external organizations, as appropriate.
Budget Support
All training, materials, workspaces and/or any other equipment (with the exclusion of photography/videography equipment) deemed necessary to perform the duties of the position would be provided by the American Red Cross.  Editing software available.

In accordance with Chapter Policies:

 

  • Each Red Cross volunteer is required to provide written affirmation that he or she will perform Red Cross duties in compliance with the Red Cross Code of Conduct and the Red Cross Confidential Information and Intellectual Property Policy. All volunteers are expected to protect the Red Cross image and reputation by behaving ethically and appropriately.
  • The ARCGC may perform, or may request that third parties perform, background and reference checks at any time in the volunteer application process.  All background and reference checks will be performed in accordance with applicable federal and/or state laws. This check includes a criminal history check for the past seven years and a social security number verification.
  • In addition volunteers whose job duties require regular, unsupervised access to clients who are youth, elderly, or disabled, or whose duties require the safeguarding/handling of Red Cross assets, must have a background free of conduct which may adversely impact their ability to perform their duties and must submit to a background check on an annual basis. It is the policy of the ARCGC require additional screening and require fingerprinting and a Criminal Record report from the
