American Red Cross of Greater Columbus
Position Title: Content Development (Intern), Communications
Purpose Contribute to and develop communication and marketing materials
Key Responsibilities
• Willingness to support the Red Cross Mission
•
Research, interview and gather information for a variety of communication purposes
•
Assist with drafting materials which could include talking points and fact sheets,
presentation materials, marketing pieces, PSAs and press releases and other content
development assignments
•
Continue individual ARC education from a local and national perspective
•
Exhibit cooperative spirit and embrace ways assist with messaging
Reports To Chief Communication Officer
Time Commitment 15-20 hours per week, flexible (Monday-Friday 8:30am-5:00pm)
Length of Appointment One Semester
Qualifications General knowledge of all Red Cross programs and services
Working knowledge of disaster response and preparedness
Demonstrates strong writing skills for a variety of delivery platforms
Demonstrates approachability, flexibility and commitment to serving others
Exhibits collaborative spirit
Professional appearance
Must have telephone and Internet access
Must have a valid license and a clean driving record (Must clear a BMV check)
Training Intern Orientation
CPR/First Aid/AED training (2 year certification)
Disaster Services: An Overview (Online)
Community Transportation Program shadowing experience (schedule permitting)
Disaster Response Team shadowing experience (schedule permitting)
Opportunity to become trained for other volunteer roles, if desired
Relationships Collaborates to support ES employees, members of the media, volunteers, members of
the community, and external organizations, as appropriate.

In accordance with Chapter Policies:
Each Red Cross volunteer is required to provide written affirmation that he or she will perform Red Cross duties
in compliance with the Red Cross Code of Conduct and the Red Cross Confidential Information and Intellectual
Property Policy. All volunteers are expected to protect the Red Cross image and reputation by behaving ethically
and appropriately.
The ARCGC may perform, or may request that third parties perform, background and reference checks at any
time in the volunteer application process. All background and reference checks will be performed in accordance
with applicable federal and/or state laws. This check includes a criminal history check for the past seven years
and a social security number verification.
In addition volunteers whose job duties require regular, unsupervised access to clients who are youth, elderly,
or disabled, or whose duties require the safeguarding/handling of Red Cross assets, must have a background
