Volunteers of America® GREATER OHIO Marketing Communications Intern Job Summary As part of the communications team, the marketing communications intern will be primarily responsible for the Operation Backpack campaign and the internal employee newsletter. The intern will also offer support in the areas of Web content, social media, search engine optimization, media tracking, event support and branded material writing and design. Volunteers of America of Greater Ohio is looking for an intern who can work between 20-40 hours per week for at least three months. College credit is available based on your university requirements. This is an unpaid internship. Qualifications & Skills • Entering junior or senior year of a communications, public relations, marketing or related undergraduate program • Basic knowledge of and interest in marketing/communications • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Suite • Experience with online social media oudets • Excellent verbal and written communication skills • Interest in non-profit sector a plus • Commitment and a desire to learn are expected Intern Duties 1. Operation Backpack project management a. Operation Backpack is a community campaign to collect backpacks and school supplies for homeless and at-risk children. The intern will handle all aspects of the project, from initial negotiation of partner support to project evaluation. Weekly eblast updates will be developed and sent to Operation Backpack partners. The campaign ends just in time for these homeless and at-risk children to return to school feeling confident and prepared. 2. Employee newsletter writing and development a. Intern will write and shape the bi-monthly issues of In the Loop, the electronic employee newsletter. 3. Web content and social media support and utilization of basic SEO resources to improve online presence 4. Media Value Report tracking and calculations a. Intern will actively track all mentions of Volunteers of America of Greater Ohio in the media and online. Media coverage w-ill be recorded and the equivalent ad value calculated. 5. General support activities and material development related to special events a. Examples include writing and designing branded materials, photography and volunteer coordination at special events.
