Position Description
Job Title:  College Intern

Purpose of the internship is to provide a student practical experience in a work environment outside of the college campus setting and to give students confidence in his/her abilities to be a responsible and productive individual.  Experience is hoped to increase decision making and analytical skills through observations of actual work experiences. Designed to provide professional experience to include on student’s resume.

Eligibility: A Junior or Senior in college with a minimum grade point average of 2.7.  The internship can range from 15 hours to 28 hours per week.

Requirements:
-        Student must develop a work agreement that defines the nature of their desired work experiences, learning objectives and academic expectations.  A faculty member of the college should coordinate the agreement between the student and the Chamber President/CEO.

-        The student is required to complete an interview process with the Chamber President/CEO.

-        A legitimate “learning experience” must be provided to be beneficial to both parties.  Typically, the intern would be studying Public Relations, Marketing, Graphic Design, Communications or Business to find a valuable work experience at the Chamber of Commerce.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Complete a Chamber Office Orientation designed by the President/CEO.  Up to a four hour session which will include computer overview, purpose of a Chamber of Commerce, office equipment use and an understanding of Chamber staff responsibilities.

Prepare news releases for current events and programs sponsored by the Chamber.  Reviewed by Chamber President/CEO or his or her designee before distribution.

Accompany the President/CEO at meetings for information gathering and experience.

Assist in compiling media kits for the Music & Arts Festival. (Applies Spring/Summer quarter.)

Assist in preparing plans for membership meetings, Taste of Westerville, golf outing, and/or Evening of Elegance Auction. (Depending on the time of year.)

Gather data to design or revise flyers, computerized reports or letters to enhance the image of the Chamber.

Take initiative to accomplish goals/expectations through assigned projects, observations, reading, on-site activities, interviews or discussions, training, and attendance related at meetings.
