Internship opportunity for public relations, communications, public policy or journalism student providing support to Columbus Public Health during the 2013 summer season in the office of Public Affairs and Communications. This position will support our efforts to market and promote our public health work that impact important issues such as chronic disease prevention, health equity, and active living; assuring optimal services are provided to Columbus residents; sexual health; disease control; infant mortality and maternal health; alcohol and drug services and others. DUTIES INCLUDE: Writing press releases Assisting with media relations Researching public health policy issues Developing social media messages and utilizing social media tools Posting messages to social media outlets (Facebook and Twitter) Updating electronic databases of communication contacts Updating disease fact sheets Logistics support

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS INCLUDE: Undergraduate or graduate student majoring in public relations, communications, public policy or journalism. Career goal in health communications, public affairs, communications, or journalism. MINIMUM EDUCATION/WORK REQUIREMENTS: Currently pursuing graduate or undergraduate degree in public relations, communications, public policy or journalism. Demonstrated positive experience working with diverse groups and individuals. Demonstrated writing skills with course work, experience using social media tools, WORD, PPT, and ADOBE. Experience using Photoshop Illustrator preferred. This is a paid internship.
